Why doesnt Israel use Fatah to defeat Hamas?

As I understand it, they did try that strategy! Only it was with Hamas. Unfortunately, it didn't work out as they'd hoped. Now they and Fatah are on the same side vis-a-vis Hamas, but Hamas is much stronger than Fatah, at least in Gaza, where it's taken over.
