Looking for a good road bike, comfortable over long distances, yet light and tough. suggestions?

back into riding after a 20 yr hiatus. im looking for a good quality starter bike (not cutting edge). ive heard good things about the trek 1.2. good price and quality. looking to do primarily daytrip touring over somewhat hilly terrain. (no racing)
