Help with books related to Catcher in the Rye?

I'm reading Catcher in the Rye, and I have to pick a symbol in it. I picked the carousel and the gold rings as a symbol of Holden finally accepting that everyone has to grow up, or something like that. Now I have to pick another book with a symbol that relates to the one I picked. Anyone know any good book with the symbolism of acceptance to growing up or anything related to that?
